Imagine your home as a big colouring book. It's fun to colour it with styles that have been loved for a very long time. In India, we have lots of special designs, colours, and patterns that have been around for years and years. Let's see how we can use these to make our homes look like the beautiful palaces and forts we read about in stories!
Have you ever seen those pretty stone or wood screens with lots of holes in them that make cool patterns? They're called "jali" and they're like magic windows that let light and air come in but keep the room private. You can have jali designs on your windows or even as a little wall to separate one part of your room from another.
Then there are "arches" and "columns" - these are like big doorways and pillars that you might see in old temples or big houses. They make a room look really grand! You can have an arch shape over your door or even paint a picture of a column on your wall.
And don't forget about "carved wooden doors" - these are doors with beautiful pictures cut into the wood. They can tell stories of kings and queens or show animals and flowers. You can have a small carved box or a picture frame in your room to bring in this style.
"Marble" and "stone flooring" are also very fancy. They're like the floors in a castle! You can have tiles with patterns on them that look like marble or stone to make your floor look really cool.
Colours and fabrics in India are like a rainbow - so many to choose from! Bright reds, shiny golds, and ocean blues are colours that can make your room feel warm and happy.
Have you ever seen clothes with patterns that look like they were stamped with a little block of wood? That's called "block-printing," and you can have bed sheets or curtains with these designs to make your room look special.
Cushions and curtains can also have "embroidery" - that's when you sew a pattern with colourful threads and sometimes even little mirrors or shiny beads. They can make your room sparkle!
And there are special patterns like "paisley," which looks like a big droplet with a twist, and "floral" patterns with lots of flowers. You can have these on your pillows, bedsheets, or even on your walls.
Mixing old and new styles is like having vanilla ice cream with hot chocolate sauce - both are good on their own, but together, they're amazing! You can have a modern chair with a cushion that has a paisley pattern. Or you can put a shiny new lamp next to an old wooden box.
Using old patterns in new ways is also fun. How about a paisley-shaped clock on your wall? Or a bright blue and gold rug that looks like it came from a king's palace but feels soft under your feet?
